V.T Black & White Angelfish 3.5cm
Black and White Angelfish already have one of the strongest contrasting patterns available amongst domestic Angelfish, but combining this colouration with the Veiltail trait creates an even more dramatic fish. Instead of relying on brilliant reds, blues or metallic colours, the V/T Black White Angelfish gets its appeal from the contrast between pale silver-white scales and deep black markings, all carried across the elongated body and finnage that make Veiltail Angelfish such impressive display fish.
V/T Black White Angelfish
Black and White Angelfish already have one of the strongest contrasting patterns available amongst domestic Angelfish, but combining this colouration with the Veiltail trait creates an even more dramatic fish. Instead of relying on brilliant reds, blues or metallic colours, the V/T Black White Angelfish gets its appeal from the contrast between pale silver-white scales and deep black markings, all carried across the elongated body and finnage that make Veiltail Angelfish such impressive display fish.
The exact pattern can vary considerably between individuals. Some fish develop a predominantly silver-white body interrupted by large, irregular patches of charcoal and jet black, whilst others may become considerably darker with smaller sections of contrasting white. Subtle silver and pale blue iridescence can become visible through the lighter scales as the fish turns under aquarium lighting. The Veiltail trait extends the dorsal, anal and caudal fins considerably beyond those of a standard Angelfish, allowing the black and white pattern to continue through an almost flowing silhouette as the fish moves. Because both colours are so strongly represented, planted aquariums work particularly well with this variety. Rich green plants and natural timber provide enough contrast for both the white and black portions of the fish to remain visible.
Sexing V/T Black White Angelfish is difficult when young, and body shape alone isn't a particularly reliable method. Raising a small group and allowing pairs to form naturally is generally the easiest approach. A compatible pair will clean a broad leaf, slate or another vertical surface before the female deposits rows of adhesive eggs and the male follows behind to fertilise them. Both parents guard the spawning site and developing fry.
Tank Recommendations for Your V/T Black White Angelfish
A minimum aquarium size of around 150 litres is recommended for a small group or breeding pair. Because this variety carries the Veiltail trait, a taller aquarium with plenty of unobstructed swimming space is particularly beneficial.
Broad-leaved plants, driftwood and open areas provide an excellent environment. Sharp rocks and decorations should be avoided because the elongated fins can tear relatively easily. Filtration should provide excellent water quality without creating excessive current, and green planted backgrounds work particularly well with the contrasting black and white colouration.
Suitable Tank Buddies
V/T Black White Angelfish are peaceful cichlids, but their particularly long fins make careful tank mate selection important.
Usually Compatible
Rummynose tetras, cardinal tetras, Corydoras, bristlenose catfish, peaceful gouramis and other calm community species that aren't inclined to nip fins.
Sometimes Compatible
Rainbowfish, German blue rams, keyhole cichlids and larger tetras may work in spacious aquariums, although particularly active fish should be monitored around the slower Veiltail Angelfish.
Rarely Compatible
Tiger Barbs, Serpae Tetras and other known fin nippers are poor choices because the extended fins provide an easy target. Large, aggressive cichlids should also be avoided.
Feeding Your V/T Black White Angelfish
V/T Black White Angelfish are extremely easy to feed and readily accept most prepared foods. The ideal diet would consist of a quality slow-sinking pellet or flake supplemented with frozen bloodworms, blackworms and brine shrimp. Providing a varied diet will maintain excellent body condition and help the fish develop strong, undamaged finnage.
