The sparkling Gourami is an adorable little fish. It makes a wonderful and unusual addition to a nano tank, sports, and outstanding personality! Only getting up to 4cm in size this fish has a bright iridescent blue color with dark purple stripes and spots throughout its body. It shimmers amazingly as it gracefully swims around the tank under the aquarium lighting. It is best kept in a shoal with other sparkling gouramis but it does have a slight territorial nature however this is easily mitigated with the use of aquatic plants.

Unlike most gouramis that stick to the aquarium's upper levels, the sparkling gourami utilizes all areas of the aquarium and will become a very personable fish. They have a maximum lifespan of 5 years and distinguishing males and females are fairly difficult however they have been found to readily breed in the home aquaria. The sparkling gourami is naturally found in Southeast Asia.

Tank Recommendations for your Sparkling Gourami

The Sparkling Gourami is a very active little fish and would be fine in a tank that is 10 gallons (37 liters). It is not fussy at all when it comes to the substrate but will love a densely planted aquarium. This would also ensure that multiple sparkling gouramis have ample space for their territories. The maximum amount of sparkling gourami in a 37-liter tank would be around 4-5

Suitable Tank Buddies

The sparkling gourami is a very peaceful fish with slight aggression and territorial behavior coming out when breeding and for dominance. however, it is also not advisable for them to be kept alone as they may become very shy.
