When it comes to stocking an aquarium, mussels are probably not going to be on top of the list. However, these amazing bivalves make for a great natural clean-up crew in the aquarium and make for a great oddball, easy-to-care-for addition to the aquarium. Freshwater mussels can be found throughout the globe however this species, in particular, is a true Australian native which just makes it even better.

not much survive our tank without being eaten by other fish... however, not only do these guys thrive but unlike there tankmates they clean rather than 'dirty'. dont do much but they are so entaining to watch when they decide to move about. love em.

  4. Fantastic, unusual tank mates
    100%
I ordered two of these and originally thought these might not have arrived alive, but popped them in the tank anyway.

The don't move too often, but when the do- SO COOL. I love seeing their large 'tongue' pop out as they push themselves around. Well worth the wait.

  5. Surprising....
    100%
One of the coolest additions to my tank, I thought they arrived dead because they didn't do much at all, then to my surprise, just as I was watching one stuck it's 'tongue' out to move away!
They actually relocate a fair bit - as much as they can in my driftwood crowded tank. I love getting up in the morning and seeing them inexplicably in a new spot. would definitely recommend!

  7. Brilliant!
    100%
These things are AMAZING. Sadly we can't import them to WA so I had to source them from an actual store over here. I popped 4 in the tank not expecting much other than decoration but was surprised. The next morning they were all in different locations, with trails in the gravel showing exactly what route they took. Every morning I find all the wood and plants bowled over or even pushed a fair distance by these critters. The only thing that actually stops them is rocks. It's also fun to watch with the light off as their tongue billows out and they pick themselves off the ground like snails. It's positively intriguing. Definitely recommend them. especially if you don't mind your decor rearranged every night while you sleep.

  8. good cleaners

Not much you can really say about these guys. They dont look like much and hardly seem to move most of the time. However, you dont have to feed them a special diet. And you dont have to do anything with or for them. What you buy them for, is simply to clean your gravel. And this they do very well. A great assistant in keeping the tank clean and keeping the water clean and healthy.
