When it comes to stocking an aquarium, mussels are probably not going to be on top of the list. However, these amazing bivalves make for a great natural clean-up crew in the aquarium and make for a great oddball, easy-to-care-for addition to the aquarium. Freshwater mussels can be found throughout the globe however this species, in particular, is a true Australian native which just makes it even better.

Great additionFantastic addition to the tank. They do need to be fed though (even in well established tanks, as they tend to starve to death over a period of months) and food is hard to find. Any marine clam food - phytoplankton - will do and can be fed with a pipette.
They grow to be enormous and move around a fair bit, though they can often be hard to find.
Arrived in great health and acclimatized quickly.Posted on

awesomeSo cool, put them in their tanks in the afternoon when I got them, by morning they were scattered around everywhere and some had even buried themselves, fascinating things to watch.

Best addition in my aquarium!!Bought 2 Mussel's for my aquarium they are a fantastic addition, I would recommend to anyone looking for something different in the tank. Also from what I have read up on they will assist in keeping the water clean too!

They're musselsI stored these in a coldwater basin for 3 days while waiting for my tank, I thought they were dead as they did not poke out their siphons, but about a week later they are fine in the tropical tank

AmazingWeirdest things ever you have to get one. Really big and as soon as I put him in he was open and filtering the water. The fish love to get close to him and freak out when he closes. Absolutely the coolest thing ever.

Awesome :)Love these guys! I bought 4 and dropped them in to the tank in a group, not really knowing what to expect. As soon as night fell, one had made it's way all the way across the tank and started burying itself in a cosy corner. Two more had done the same by the next day. They are fantastic to watch if you catch them on the move or with their white 'tongue' out. I think the fish think they're quite interesting too - and get quite a surprise when they get too close to the tongue causing the mussel to quickly shut it's shell tight :)
