The jewel or green Panchax is a relatively new and very rare panchax species in the aquarium hobby. These fish are adorable, active and attractive fish that will make an excellent addition to nano biotope or dedicated community system. Their vibrant coloration, unique patterns, and surface-dwelling habits make them a fantastic species to add some life to a tank and their naturally occurring vibrancy is something that can be thoroughly enjoyed.
 
The jewel Panchax has a long, cylindrical body shape with a mix of mild yet eye-catching colours. The body colour of the jewe panchax is a bright, metallic green which is complimented by stripes of brown and blue spotting. These fish actually look like mini versions of the giant green panchax which is loved int he aquarium hobby. The average size of the jewel Panchax is around 6-8 cm in length.
 
Breeding jewel Panchax can be an enjoyable experience for hobbyists, as they exhibit interesting breeding behavior. They are egg-layers and prefer to deposit their eggs among floating plants or other surface cover. The parents do not provide any care for the eggs or fry, so it is recommended to separate them after spawning.
 
Tank Recommendations for your Jewel Panchax - Wild India
A minimum tank size of 50 litres is recommended for these killifish which makes them great for smaller tanks. As they send a lot of time near the surface, these fish aren't too concerned about substrate of hardscape in the aquarium. They will however love plenty of floating plants or other surface cover. The water temperature should be maintained between 22-26°C, with a pH level of 6.0-7.5.
 
Suitable Tank Buddies
The jewel Panchax is a peaceful species and can be housed with a variety of small, non-aggressive tankmates.
 
Usually Compatible
Small tetras, rasboras, corydoras, otocinclus, peaceful shrimp species, and other small, non-aggressive fish.
 
Sometimes Compatible
Mildly aggressive fish, like larger barbs or some dwarf cichlids, might intimidate the jewel Panchax.

Large, aggressive fish species or predatory fish, which may harass or even eat the smaller jewel Panchax.
 
Feeding your Jewel Panchax - Wild India
The jewel Panchax is an omnivorous species and will accept a wide range of foods. Provide a varied diet of high-quality floating flakes, micro pellets, frozen or live foods like brine shrimp, daphnia, and mosquito larvae.
