Angelfish have long been one of the most recognisable and elegant freshwater aquarium fish, and with decades of selective breeding, hobbyists have produced an incredible range of colour and scale variations. The Gold Pearlscale Angelfish is one of the more unique strains available, combining the classic angelfish body shape with a shimmering pearlscale texture that gives the fish a slightly raised, reflective appearance across the body.

This strain typically displays a soft golden-yellow base colour that can range from pale champagne to deeper honey tones depending on the individual. What makes the pearlscale variation stand out is the slightly raised, reflective scaling that catches light differently to standard angelfish, giving the body a subtle "beaded" or textured look. Under aquarium lighting, this creates a soft shimmering effect that becomes more pronounced as the fish moves through the water. The fins are long and flowing, as expected with angelfish, often remaining semi-transparent with light golden highlights, adding to the overall elegance of the fish.

Sexing angelfish is quite difficult, especially when young, as males and females look very similar. When mature, pairs will often naturally form and begin spawning behaviour, laying eggs on vertical surfaces such as plant leaves, driftwood or aquarium glass. Both parents may guard the eggs and fry once hatched.

Tank Recommendations for your Gold Pearlscale Angelfish

Angelfish are taller-bodied fish and require aquariums with both height and length. A minimum aquarium size of 150 litres is recommended, with larger aquariums always preferred. They thrive in planted aquariums with open swimming space and vertical structures such as driftwood or taller plants. A darker background or black substrate works particularly well with this strain, allowing the golden pearlscale patterning to stand out more prominently.

Feeding your Gold Pearlscale Angelfish

Angelfish are very easy to feed and will accept a wide range of aquarium foods. The ideal diet would be a quality flake or slow-sinking pellet, supplemented with frozen bloodworms, blackworms or brine shrimp to maintain strong health and finnage.
