Giant Danio

The giant danio is one of the most active and best schooling fish you will see in your aquarium! Whilst most danio species max out at around 5 cm the giant danio will easily double that reaching around 10cm making it a great schooling fish for aquariums with larger fish. The giant danio shines with its simplicity of color, the amber body with stripes and blotches of a honey gold bright blue makes it stand out well. The giant danio is also a very hardy and versatile beginner fish suitable for cooler climates and also tropical aquariums.

They are also very peaceful fish and get along great in mixed-community aquariums. Trying to find the males and females in giant danios is somewhat difficult when they are small but once they get larger the males tend to have a very torpedo-like shape whereas females have a more curved belly. The giant danio is easy to breed and is known as an egg-scattering fish. The wild habitat for giant danios is the rivers of south India and Bangladesh

Tank Recommendations for your Giant Danios

The giant danio is a very active fish that needs a tank that is at least 100 liters (26 gallons) and around 2 feet minimum width. The substrate is not of great importance for these fish but a lot of plants would be greatly appreciated along with a tight-fitting lid because giant danios are prolific jumpers.
