Corydoras loxozonus displays a pale silver to creamy base colour with a bold dark diagonal stripe that begins near the dorsal region and runs down toward the lower rear body. This angled body marking gives the species a unique and highly recognisable look compared to the more horizontal patterns seen in many other Corydoras. The fins remain mostly translucent with subtle smoky shading, while the barbels and rounded snout make them excellent sand sifters. In groups, they constantly move together across the substrate, making them one of the most entertaining bottom dwellers to watch.
Sexing this species follows the usual Corydoras pattern, with females becoming slightly broader and fuller-bodied than males once mature. Breeding usually follows cooler water changes, where pairs enter the classic T-position and adhesive eggs are placed on glass, leaves, or décor.
Tank Recommendations for Your Loxozonus Corydoras
This species should always be kept in groups of 5–6 or more, with larger groups showing much more confidence and natural shoaling behaviour. A minimum aquarium size of 60 litres is recommended. A soft sandy substrate is ideal, as it protects the barbels and allows constant natural sifting behaviour. Driftwood, plants, leaf litter, and shaded areas all help recreate the calmer South American environments they naturally inhabit.

Feeding Your Loxozonus Corydoras
These Corydoras spend most of their day actively searching the substrate for food, so sinking foods are always best. The ideal diet would be a quality sinking pellet or wafer, supplemented with frozen bloodworms, blackworms, or baby brine shrimp to maintain strong health and encourage breeding condition.
