Assorted Longfin Danio

The Assorted Longfin Danio is a dazzling collection of long-finned variants of the ever-popular danio, and with so many different varieties in the danio family, like gold, zebra, leopard, pearl, spotted, and longfin varieties, it can be difficult to pick a favourite. For that reason, the team at LiveFish has put together a great option of assorted longfin danios. This makes sure that you can experience all the colours and strains available in the danio family in a random mix!

What makes these fish truly captivating is the way their elongated fins ripple behind them like silk banners as they dart through the tank. The contrast between their energetic, darting motion and the slow, graceful sway of their trailing fins creates a uniquely hypnotic visual effect. Each colour strain offers something different; some shimmer with metallic gold or silver tones, while others display black spots or horizontal striping. Their constant schooling behaviour and rapid movement keep the tank lively. Watching them school, especially in a planted or aquascaped tank, will be absolutely stunning.

Breeding danios is actually incredibly easy; however, it's not often done in the home aquarium due to a lack of awareness. These fish are egg scatterers and will do so almost every single day once they reach maturity. The females rapidly scatter eggs into fine plant matter or a spawning mop.

Tank Recommendations for your Assorted Longfin Danio

All of the longfin danios included in this assorted mix reach a maximum size of around 5-6 cm, meaning that they are very small fish. As these are active schooling fish, you would only need a tank of around 75 litres to accommodate a decent number of them. Substrate or hardscape choices are not a big concern with longfin danios, as they are open water fish; however, they will love and look best in a densely planted aquarium. The only precaution that should be taken into consideration for longfin danios is that they are avid jumpers, so a good aquarium lid is a must.

Suitable Tank Buddies

All the longfin danios included in this assortment are extremely peaceful fish with no fin-nipping tendencies; they can be kept with a vast range of peaceful community fish.

Usually Compatible

Tetrasgouramiscorydorasangelfish, cherry barbs, and common community fish species.

Sometime Compatible

dwarf cichlids such as rams and large peaceful cichlids such as Uaru or Severums, which might outcompete them for food.

Rarely Compatible

Shrimp and large aggressive species such as African cichlids, Oscars, and Jaguar cichlids.

Feeding your Assorted Longfin Danio

Longfin danios will take a wide range of aquarium danio fish foods given to them, including pellets, flakes, frozen, and live foods. When kept in a school, it's great to see their pack feeding as they hammer the surface of the water when feeding. Because of this, a primarily surface-dwelling mentality, a floating or slow-sinking food is best fed to them.
