Copper Green Angelfish 3.5cm
Copper Green Angelfish
Angelfish have remained one of the most recognisable freshwater aquarium fish for decades, and for good reason. Their graceful swimming behaviour, unique body shape and endless range of selectively bred colour varieties have made them a staple of the aquarium hobby. The Copper Green Angelfish is one of the more understated strains, relying on metallic colouration rather than bold patterns to really stand out in the aquarium.
The Copper Green Angelfish displays a beautiful blend of metallic copper and olive green across the body, with the colours constantly changing depending on the angle of the light. As these fish mature, the copper tones deepen through the shoulders, while iridescent green scales really begin to shine across the flanks. The transparent fins allow the body colour to remain the main feature, while subtle vertical barring may still appear depending on the fish's mood. Against a black background or in a heavily planted aquarium, these metallic colours are nothing short of spectacular and become far more noticeable than they first appear.
Breeding Copper Green Angelfish is no different from most other domestic angelfish strains and can be a rewarding experience for aquarists. Once a compatible pair has formed, they will clean a flat vertical surface before laying rows of adhesive eggs. Both parents actively guard the eggs and later care for the free-swimming fry. Males and females can be difficult to distinguish until breeding behaviour begins, although mature females generally become slightly fuller through the body.
Tank Recommendations for your Copper Green Angelfish
Angelfish are taller-bodied fish and require aquariums with both height and length. A minimum aquarium size of 150 litres is recommended, with larger aquariums always preferred.
They thrive in planted aquariums with open swimming space and vertical structures such as driftwood or taller plants. The copper-green colour can be really accentuated with bright green background plants and earthy tones.
Suitable Tank Buddies
Copper Green Angelfish are generally peaceful community fish but may become territorial while breeding.
Usually Compatible
Cardinal tetras, rummynose tetras, black widow tetras, corydoras, bristlenose catfish, peaceful rainbowfish and other similarly sized community fish.
Sometimes Compatible
Blue rams, apistogramma, larger gouramis and other peaceful cichlids that are unlikely to compete aggressively for territory.
Rarely Compatible
Tiger barbs and other fin-nipping species should be avoided, along with very small nano fish that could eventually be viewed as food by mature angelfish.
Feeding your Copper Green Angelfish
Copper Green Angelfish are extremely easy to feed and readily accept a wide variety of aquarium foods. The ideal diet would consist of a quality flake or slow-sinking cichlid pellet, supplemented with frozen bloodworms, blackworms, or brine shrimp to maintain excellent health, encourage breeding and bring out the intensity of the red head colouration.
