Yellow Fin Fairy Wrasse is a small, but beautiful fish. The males' upper body and face is a reddish colour with pale pink to white abdomen. Three white bands run down the side of its body with the same colouration covering the rear of its body and tail. The front two-thirds of its dorsal fin are yellow, with a white final third. A pale blue trim runs along the top and base. Its pelvic and anal fins are pale with a clear, bluish trim. Females tend to be a more reddish-orange colour with transparent fins. This species is capable of changing colour depending on its mood. Males display a brighter white colour on their sides when excited. Adults can reach a size of 3 inches (7.6 centimetres).

The Yellow Fin Fairy Wrasse is a sexually dimorphic species. Little is known about their breeding habits, but their social groups consist of a harem. This usually consists of a dominant male, with several females and juveniles. If they aren't part of a small group, they will live solitarily.

This species' natural environment spreads across the Western Pacific. This includes countries such as Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Palau. Groups of them live on reefs amongst branching coral, at depths between 2-30 metres.

Tank Recommendations for your Yellow Fin Fairy Wrasse

A suitable tank should have a capacity of at least 55 gallons (208 litres). Tank dimensions for a large male should be 60x30x30 or larger.

The Yellow Fin Fairy Wrasse is reef safe and won't threaten corals or invertebrates. They are suitable for reef or fish-only aquariums. This is a lively species, which need plenty of space in a tank for swimming.

These fish can jump out of the tank, so a secure lid is essential. There should be plenty of caves and crevices for shelter and if possible an area in the shade.

Suitable Tank Buddies

Yellow Fin Fairy Wrasse generally have a peaceful temperament. They aren't dangerous to other fish, but a large male may fight newcomers. If it feels threatened by bigger, aggressive fish, it will often hide in crevices.

Usually Compatible

The most suitable tank buddies are non-aggressive species. Gobies, Butterflyfish and Fairy Basslets are fine. Other Fairy and Flasher Wrasses can also co-habit without any issues.

Sometime Compatible

Care should be taken with Anglerfish, Frogfish, Eels, Lions/Scorpionfish, as all may try to eat or harass the Yellow Fin Fairy Wrasse.

Rarely Compatible

Although Yellow Fin Fairy Wrasse is reef safe, they may harm some small species of shrimp. They should not be housed with Seahorse or Pipefish as being slower swimmers are likely to get stressed if they are competing for food. Don't keep them with Sharks or Rays either as they will eat them.

Feeding Your Yellow Fin Fairy Wrasse
