The Trimac generally are rather messy eaters, best to ensure sufficient filtration is provided.
The Trimac, while being a big robust bossy Cichlid, don't like high water flow, if the return water can drop into the tank via spray bar for example this would be ideal.
Trimac's will not tolerate, or play too nicely with other tankmates easily. It may be possible to keep this fish as part of a large dominant cichlid community tank if enough space is provided within the Aquarium.
Providing plenty of homes and space to swim in the Aquarium would be ideal, they naturally like the rocks and woods to form homes/ territory within the tank.
Plants are not a good option with them as they are most likely going to be uprooted as much as the Oscar the Trimac will arrange the Aquarium Decor however they would like it to be, which in itself can be funny to watch.
