Snow Leopard Discus 9cm
Snow Leopard Discus
There are a few discus strains that manage to combine bold patterning with elegant coloration quite like the Snow Leopard Discus. Named after the famous big cat, this variety displays an intricate network of spotting and patterning across a brilliant white base, creating one of the most striking discus strains available to hobbyists today.
The Snow Leopard Discus features a clean white to cream base colour covered in intricate black, charcoal and occasionally deep blue spotting across the body and fins. Every individual develops a unique pattern, making no two fish exactly alike. As they mature, the contrast between the crisp white body and dark markings becomes even more pronounced, while subtle iridescent highlights appear beneath aquarium lighting. Their tall, perfectly rounded body and graceful swimming behaviour make them an instant centrepiece in any display aquarium.
Sexing Snow Leopard Discus is just as challenging as other discus varieties, with males and females showing very few obvious differences. The most reliable breeding method is to allow a group of juveniles to naturally pair. Both parents participate in guarding the eggs and raising the fry, making breeding discus one of the most rewarding experiences in the hobby.
Tank Recommendations for your Snow Leopard Discus
Discus are large-growing fish, reaching around 20 cm in length, and require exceptionally stable water conditions. A minimum aquarium size of 250 litres is recommended, although larger aquariums are always preferred as they provide greater water stability.
A planted aquarium with open swimming space is ideal, while darker backgrounds make the brilliant white coloration stand out beautifully. Discus thrive in warmer temperatures than most tropical fish and appreciate excellent filtration combined with regular water changes.
