Burmese Rummynose

Burmese Rummynose 3.5cm

Rating:

The Burmese rummy nose is a criminally underrated species that is small, active, and a fantastic schooling species. This species is actually a part of the barb family and not a tetra, although it shares its name with one of the most popular tetra species. These Burmese rummy noses are a fairly recent entry into the aquarium hobby and are a naturally occurring fish which is almost unbelievable considering their colours.

Arrived happy and alive. I ordered two types of tetras, cant tell which is which as they were all white but their swimming happily in tank and slight colour returning after an hour so i can sort of make out the difference. Once again stoked with Live fish.

Love these fish, ordered group of 10 qhich arrived in very good shape?, 12 hours after safe arrival several males coloured up to steel blue sheen with light orange nose and red tail tips, and a pair had started a very moving synchonised swimming with male matching female from below, really something to see. Their behaviour is not schooling so much as the more common Rummynose, males strike out and explore, females stay quieter . Beautifil fish, feeding well on flake, daphnia and no trouble with Endlers, Rams, corys, Hengli rasbora, bristlenose, loaches, bumblebee gobies, whiptails.

  4. They look nice

Bought ten of these, 4 males and 6 females arrived.
Female plain in colour, males blue with orange on face and tail.
Blue not quiet as bright as picture but still a good colour and very nice looking fish IMO. Google the name and plenty of pictures will show you the more softer shade of blue that my males have.
Good service and nice healthy fish.

  6. Great little Fish

I guess photos are hard to judge from, especially with this species! The 10 i ordered all arrived alive, coloured up after a few days, very nicely.
The males appear to have more red in the tail in my tank

I keep them with discus & my only regret with them is that i did not order 30, so the school would be bigger & better

I ordered these last year. Have finally decided to write a review on them.

Also to put a lid on the complaints of them being uncolored. To those that received uncolored Rummynose, the reason for this is because the fish you received are female. To be safe you should order at least 10 at a time to ensure you at least get 4-5 males which are the colorful ones.

Also they will only color up if your tank conditions are good and healthy. For me and my planted aquarium all arrived uncolored but within 2 hours the males started to show their blue and orange. At present they pretty much look like the pictures above - except the females of course which are just plain silver in color. But really if your tank conditions are not right they will always be shy from stress and will not color (that is assuming you have any males at all)

Unfortunately being in this hobby you take the good with the bad I personally don't mind the females bland colors as it's all part of nature.

The fish its self arrived un coloured and to this day hasen't coloured up, would of been nice if they where shipped coloured or atleast told they come with out colour. Just a small tip, but still no colour.

Apart from that, all four fish arrived alive. Good service and good packaging.

I ordered five of these guys, have four left after the smallest female that arrived died.

Still waiting and hoping that the males develop the vibrant blue colour as seen in these pics.

All in all though they are a great addition to the tank.
