The Serpae tetra has been a long-time underrated staple in the aquarium hobby. It is an incredibly common species which is popular for its bright red colours that contrast great in planted and community tanks. They also have a unique oval body shape, are easy to care for and are relatively peaceful fish but can display fin-nipping behaviour. The schooling behaviour of these fish makes them a great addition to most community systems but these fish would also make a great addition to a biotope Blackwater aquarium.

Great CommunityI got 7 of the Serpae Tetras and put them with my Flame Tetra, Silver Tip Tetra in my 80gallon tank and they get along very well. No one bothers each other and just like to swim around.

Fantastic. A must for any peaceful aquarium.Bright beautiful and active. These guys are superb. A big group of these look like a red flash constantly on the move, the more i bought the more they kept together to form a mass cloud of tetras!

All time favourite fishThis little beauties would have to be my all time favourite fish. I ordered 10 small fish (the ones I received were actually a lot bigger than I expected), they were a little pale upon arrival but coloured up very quickly, into a glorious luminescent red once they had been added to the tank. With the larger group of fish they create a wonderful shoaling effect (especially with the other Tetras) swimming around the tank and darting through the plants/driftwood and are amazing to watch. The perfect addition to a community tank with a pop of colour.

Great fish but VERY nippyI got a school of 7 of these guys. They are stunning fish and active and eager eaters. BUT be careful as they are serious fin nippers. I keep mine in with Tiger Barbs, Black Widow Tetras and Yoyo Loaches and all is well but if you try and keep them with peaceful of smaller fish they will attack them. In fact they even attack each other to death, I'm now down to just 2 in the last 6 months as they all pick on the weakest one till it dies. But all that said they are great little fish and water is not an issue as they adapt really well to a large range of water but like all fish keep it clean and stable.

Beautiful fishI ordered a few of these to add to my community tank and they settled in almost immediately and didn't take long at all for the gorgeous red/orange colour to come through.
