Male Pink Pastel Guppy

There probably isn't another freshwater fish that has been selectively bred into as many different colour varieties as the humble Guppy. Over generations, breeders have developed strains displaying everything from deep metallic blues and blacks through to incredibly soft pastel colours that are rarely seen in other freshwater fish. The Male Pink Pastel Guppy is one of these more delicate-looking varieties, combining beautiful pale pink colouration with the extended finnage and active personality that make male Guppies such popular additions to community aquariums.

The Male Pink Pastel Guppy develops a pale silver to creamy pink body, with soft pink pigmentation becoming particularly noticeable through the rear half and caudal fin. Depending on the individual, the body may display subtle pearlescent highlights that reflect pale blue, lavender and silver beneath aquarium lighting. The tail is generally the main feature, developing a broad, fan-like shape with soft pink colouration that can range from an almost translucent blush to a considerably stronger rose tone. Rather than relying on heavy black markings or intense metallic colours, the appeal of this variety comes from its relatively clean appearance and delicate colour transitions. Dark backgrounds and dense green plants work particularly well with these fish, as they allow the lighter pink colouration to remain visible.

Male Guppies are extremely easy to distinguish from females thanks to their stronger colouration, developed finnage and modified anal fin known as a gonopodium. Guppies are livebearers, meaning the female gives birth to fully formed, free-swimming young rather than depositing eggs. A healthy female can produce a new brood approximately every four to six weeks, with dense plants providing important shelter for newborn fry. Because this listing is for males only, females will need to be introduced if breeding is intended.

Tank Recommendations for Your Male Pink Pastel Guppy

Male Pink Pastel Guppies are small, active community fish and are suitable for aquariums of around 40 litres or larger. They are particularly impressive when maintained in small groups where their colours and finnage can be appreciated together.

A planted aquarium containing open swimming space, floating plants and gentle to moderate filtration provides an excellent environment. Guppies generally prefer slightly hard, alkaline water and benefit from stable mineral content. Dark backgrounds and green plants provide a fantastic contrast against the soft pink colouration of this strain.

Suitable Tank Buddies

Male Pink Pastel Guppies are peaceful and can be maintained with a wide variety of similarly sized community fish.

Usually Compatible

Platies, mollies, peaceful rasboras, Corydoras, bristlenose catfish and other small community species capable of tolerating similar water conditions.

Sometimes Compatible

Angelfish, dwarf gouramis, Bettas and other larger or territorial community fish may coexist in sufficiently spacious aquariums, although long-finned male Guppies can occasionally attract unwanted attention.

Rarely Compatible

Tiger Barbs, large aggressive cichlids, predatory catfish and persistent fin-nipping species should generally be avoided, as they may damage the Guppies' extended tails or consume them.

Feeding Your Male Pink Pastel Guppy

Male Pink Pastel Guppies are enthusiastic omnivores and readily accept most common aquarium foods. Quality floating micro pellets or finely crushed flakes make an excellent staple and can be supplemented with frozen daphnia, brine shrimp and bloodworms. A varied diet containing both plant- and animal-based ingredients will help maintain excellent body condition and support their delicate colouration.
