Male Green Hulk Guppy

There probably isn't another freshwater fish that demonstrates the endless possibilities of selective breeding quite like the guppy. With hundreds of different strains now available throughout the aquarium hobby, breeders continue producing increasingly unique colours and patterns every year. The Male Green Hulk Guppy is one of the more modern strains, combining heavy metallic scaling with an intense emerald-green body that immediately stands out amongst more traditional guppy varieties.

The Male Green Hulk Guppy displays a brilliant metallic emerald-green body that almost glows beneath aquarium lighting. Depending on the individual, the body can develop shades of turquoise, jade and deep forest green that constantly shift as the fish moves around the aquarium. Many fish also develop dark metallic scaling across the shoulders and caudal peduncle, giving them the bold "Hulk" appearance that inspired the name. Their large, flowing tail complements the vivid body colour perfectly, whilst the iridescent scales shimmer from almost every angle. Against a black background or densely planted aquarium, the metallic greens really shine through and make these fish impossible to overlook.

Like all guppies, Green Hulk Guppies are one of the easiest freshwater fish to breed and are ideal for hobbyists wanting to establish their own colony. Males are instantly recognised by their brighter colours, larger finnage and slimmer bodies, whilst females become noticeably larger and fuller-bodied. Rather than laying eggs, females give birth to fully formed fry approximately every four to six weeks under good conditions. If maintaining the Green Hulk line is your goal, selective breeding is recommended to preserve the strong metallic green colouration through future generations.

Tank Recommendations for your Male Green Hulk Guppy

Being a relatively small livebearer, a trio of Green Hulk Guppies can comfortably be maintained in aquariums from 40 litres, although larger planted aquariums will always produce the best results. Dense planting provides excellent shelter for newborn fry whilst also creating a beautiful contrast against the metallic green body colour. These fish naturally prefer slightly harder, alkaline water conditions and appreciate stable filtration with regular water changes. Open swimming space should also be provided, as guppies remain active throughout the day.

Suitable Tank Buddies

Green Hulk Guppies are peaceful community fish that mix well with a wide range of similarly sized species.

Usually Compatible
Platies, mollies, swordtails, pseudomugils, ricefish, corydoras, bristlenose catfish and other peaceful community fish that enjoy harder water conditions.

Sometimes Compatible
Peaceful gouramis, rainbowfish and larger tetras may coexist successfully, provided they are not known for fin-nipping behaviour.

Rarely Compatible
Tiger barbs, male Bettas, larger cichlids and predatory fish should generally be avoided due to fin damage or predation.

Feeding your Male Green Hulk Guppy

Green Hulk Guppies are extremely easy to feed and will readily accept flakes, nano pellets and frozen foods. The ideal diet would consist of a quality floating pellet or flake supplemented with frozen bloodworms, baby brine shrimp and daphnia. A varied diet will help maintain excellent health whilst bringing out the deep metallic green colouration that makes this strain so unique.
