The Male Bumble Bee Guppy is one of those strains that immediately catches the eye thanks to its strong yellow and black contrast. Guppies continue to be one of the most genetically diverse fish in the aquarium hobby, and the Bumble Bee strain is a perfect example of how breeders can create dramatic pattern combinations from such a small fish. Their bright contrasting colouration makes them fantastic for planted nano aquariums and lively community setups.

This strain usually displays a vibrant yellow to golden body tone through the front half of the fish, transitioning into deeper black patterning through the caudal peduncle and tail. The tail often carries a mix of jet black and honey-yellow sections, which create the signature "bumble bee" appearance. Depending on the line, some individuals may also display metallic blue or green highlights across the dorsal fin. In groups, the males create an incredibly active and colourful upper water display, constantly flashing their finnage under aquarium lighting.

Sexing is very easy, with males displaying the strong black and yellow colour contrast along with larger, flowing fins. Females are larger-bodied and much more subdued in colour. As a livebearer, females give birth to fully formed fry roughly every four weeks once mature.

Tank Recommendations for Your Male Bumble Bee Guppy

A small group or trio can be comfortably kept in aquariums from 40 litres or larger, though planted tanks always make their colours stand out more strongly. These fish do especially well in planted community aquariums with floating plants and open top-water swimming space. Slightly harder water conditions help them thrive and breed successfully.

Feeding Your Male Bumble Bee Guppy

These guppies are eager surface feeders and will readily take floating nano foods. The ideal diet would be a quality floating nano pellet or fine flake, supplemented with baby brine shrimp, microworms, or finely crushed bloodworms, which helps maintain strong colour contrast and finnage.
