Corydoras have earned a reputation as some of the hardest-working fish in the aquarium hobby, constantly patrolling the substrate in search of food whilst remaining completely peaceful with almost every community species. With well over 170 recognised species and countless undescribed forms, there is a Corydoras to suit almost every aquarium. Corydoras wotroi is one of the lesser-seen species, prized by enthusiasts for its attractive markings and active personality.

Corydoras wotroi displays a soft silver body highlighted by a series of bold black markings that run from the head through to the tail. A dark mask extends across the eye, while additional broken markings along the lateral line give these fish a beautifully clean appearance without becoming overly busy. The dorsal fin often develops a dark leading edge, adding further contrast to the otherwise silvery body. Against darker substrates and driftwood, these markings really stand out, whilst groups of Wotroi Corydoras constantly moving across the bottom make for a fantastic display.

Sexing Corydoras wotroi is relatively straightforward once mature, with females developing a noticeably broader body than slimmer males when viewed from above. Like most Corydoras, they are egg scatterers, depositing adhesive eggs on glass, plants, and aquarium décor after the classic "T-position" spawning behaviour. Given stable water quality, they can be successfully bred in the home aquarium.

Tank Recommendations for your Corydoras Wotroi

Corydoras wotroi should always be maintained in groups of 6 or more, with larger groups producing much more confident and natural behaviour. A minimum aquarium size of 75 litres is recommended. A soft sand substrate is highly recommended, as these fish spend much of the day sifting through the substrate using their sensitive barbels. Driftwood, leaf litter and planted areas provide excellent cover whilst still leaving open areas for foraging. Stable water quality and regular maintenance will keep these fish thriving for many years.

Suitable Tank Buddies

Corydoras wotroi are exceptionally peaceful and make excellent additions to community aquariums.

Usually Compatible
Tetras, rasboras, rainbowfish, dwarf gouramis, angelfish, German blue rams, bristlenose catfish and other peaceful community fish.

Sometimes Compatible
Discus, Geophagus and other peaceful South American cichlids may coexist successfully, provided there is plenty of floor space available.

Rarely Compatible
Large predatory catfish, aggressive African cichlids and territorial bottom-dwelling fish should generally be avoided, as they may continually harass the Corydoras.

Feeding your Corydoras Wotroi

Corydoras wotroi readily accept a wide variety of sinking aquarium foods. The ideal diet would consist of quality sinking pellets or wafers supplemented with frozen bloodworms, blackworms, and baby brine shrimp. Whilst they constantly forage throughout the aquarium, they should never be relied upon as a clean-up crew and benefit greatly from regular target feeding.
