Corydoras Megametae C084 - Wild Caught 5cm
Wild corydoras species are always a favourite among catfish enthusiasts, and Corydoras megametae (C084) is a particularly attractive and less commonly seen variety. Their clean patterning, active schooling behaviour, and constant interaction with the substrate make them a fantastic addition to planted community aquariums, especially for hobbyists looking to move beyond the more common cory species.
This species displays a pale silver to cream base colour with a bold dark lateral marking that runs through the body, often broken into sections depending on the individual. Subtle, darker spotting may appear across the upper body, giving them a slightly more textured look compared to cleaner-lined corydoras. Their fins are mostly translucent, sometimes carrying a soft golden or smoky tone. Like all corydoras, they use their sensitive barbels to sift through the substrate, and when kept in groups, they are constantly active and highly entertaining to watch.
Sexing is relatively straightforward once mature, with females developing a broader and fuller body shape compared to males. Breeding follows the typical corydoras pattern, where pairs enter the T-position and eggs are deposited on glass, plants, or décor. Cooler water changes can often trigger spawning behaviour.
Tank Recommendations for your Corydoras Megametae
These fish should always be kept in groups of 5–6 or more, with larger groups bringing out much more natural schooling behaviour. A minimum aquarium size of 60 litres is recommended. A soft sandy substrate is ideal to protect their barbels and allow natural foraging behaviour. Driftwood, plants, and shaded areas help them feel secure, particularly as a wild-caught species.
Suitable Tank Buddies
These corydoras are extremely peaceful and ideal for planted community aquariums.
Usually Compatible
Tetras such as neon, cardinal, and rummynose tetras, rasboras, dwarf cichlids like rams and apistogramma, and other peaceful community fish.
Sometimes Compatible
Shrimp and very small nano fish, though care should be taken to ensure they are not outcompeted during feeding.
Rarely Compatible
Larger aggressive cichlids or predatory fish, which may stress or injure the corydoras.
Feeding your Corydoras Megametae
These fish are constant bottom feeders and will actively sift through the substrate for food. The ideal diet would be a quality sinking pellet or wafer, supplemented with frozen bloodworms, blackworms, or baby brine shrimp to maintain strong health and encourage breeding.
