Blue Zebra Pinoy Angelfish 4.5cm
Blue Zebra Pinoy Angelfish
The Blue Zebra Pinoy Angelfish is a breathtaking variant of the beloved freshwater angelfish, combining the iconic zebra barring with a metallic iridescent blue sheen. This strain is particularly popular among aquarists for its dramatic patterning and metallic colouration that stands out even in a heavily planted tank. As with most angelfish varieties, the Blue Zebra Pinoy is peaceful, elegant, and makes a striking centrepiece in any community aquarium setup.
This angelfish has a tall, compressed body that can grow to around 15 cm in length and over 20 cm in height, including its graceful fins. What makes the Blue Zebra Pinoy truly unique is the blend of black vertical stripes, which is typical of zebra angelfish, with a vivid steel blue tone that intensifies with age and proper care. These fish also carry the pearl scale gene, which means they have lined metallic scales that run across the body. These shimmering blues vary from pale ice to deep sapphire, with the contrast creating a bold and regal look that is truly eye-catching.
Breeding Blue Zebra Pinoy Angelfish is achievable in the home aquarium, especially when starting with a group of juveniles and allowing natural pairs to form. Like all Pterophyllum scalare, they are egg layers, typically spawning on vertical surfaces such as broad-leaved plants or aquarium glass. Once bonded, a pair may spawn regularly, and with proper conditioning and care, the fry can be raised successfully.
Tank Recommendations for your Blue Zebra Pinoy Angelfish
Due to their tall body shape and territorial nature during spawning, a minimum tank size of 100 litres is recommended. A well-planted aquarium with vertical structures such as driftwood and Amazon swords will provide both comfort and suitable breeding surfaces. Sand or fine gravel substrates are ideal, and water should be kept clean and soft with stable temperatures around 24–26°C.
Suitable Tank Buddies
The Blue Zebra Pinoy Angelfish is fairly peaceful, with aggression only ever coming out during breeding males; however, they may eat very small fish fry and shrimp. With adequate space, these fish will get along with a wide range of community fish. It has, however, been noted that angelfish can possibly be aggressive against fish species that look similar.

Feeding your Blue Zebra Pinoy Angelfish
Angelfish, in general, are a very easy species to feed that will take a wide range of aquarium foods like pellets or flakes. They are naturally omnivores that feed on plant matter like algae, small insects, and crustaceans. This means a well-balanced aquarium food, which has good protein and green content, would be best.
