Albino Gold Discus 5cm
Albino Gold Discus
The beauty of captive-bred discus is that selective breeding continues to produce new colour combinations that simply don't exist in nature. The Albino Gold Discus is one of those strains that immediately captures attention, combining the soft golden hues of traditional gold discus with the striking red eyes and clean appearance that only albino genetics can produce.
Albino Gold Discus display a rich buttery yellow to golden body that gradually deepens as the fish matures. Unlike standard gold discus, the absence of dark pigmentation creates an incredibly clean appearance, allowing the warm golden tones to become much more vibrant. Their bright ruby-red eyes provide a stunning contrast, while subtle pearly highlights shimmer across the body as they glide through the aquarium. Against black backgrounds or densely planted aquariums, these colours become even more spectacular.
Trying to distinguish males from females is extremely difficult, with very few external differences visible. Allowing a group of juveniles to naturally pair is the most reliable method for breeding. Once established, both parents will carefully guard their eggs before raising the fry, which feed directly from the nutritious mucus produced on the adults' skin.
Tank Recommendations for your Albino Gold Discus
Discus are large-growing fish, reaching around 20 cm in length, and require exceptionally stable water conditions. A minimum aquarium size of 250 litres is recommended, although larger aquariums are always preferred as they provide greater water stability.
A planted aquarium with open swimming space is ideal, while darker backgrounds make the brilliant gold coloration stand out beautifully. Discus thrive in warmer temperatures than most tropical fish and appreciate excellent filtration combined with regular water changes.
Suitable Tank Buddies
Albino Gold Discus are peaceful fish that should only be housed with similarly peaceful species.
Usually Compatible
Cardinal tetras, rummynose tetras, Sterbai corydoras, German blue rams, pencilfish, and peaceful bristlenose catfish.
Sometimes Compatible
Peaceful angelfish, larger tetras, and smaller Geophagus species may work well in larger aquariums where feeding competition is carefully managed.
Rarely Compatible
Fast-moving schooling fish, aggressive cichlids, and fin nippers should generally be avoided due to the stress they can place on discus.
Feeding your Albino Gold Discus
A quality discus pellet should form the basis of their diet, supplemented with frozen bloodworms, blackworms, brine shrimp, and other nutritious frozen foods. Feeding a varied diet in small portions will promote steady growth, strong immunity, and vibrant coloration.
