There aren't many aquarium fish that are as entertaining to watch as Pygmy Corydoras. Unlike most Corydoras species, which spend almost all of their time on the substrate, Pygmy Corydoras regularly school through the middle of the aquarium like miniature tetras before returning to the bottom to forage. The Albino Pygmy Corydoras combines this fascinating behaviour with the striking appearance of albinism, making it one of the more unique members of the Corydoras family.

The Albino Pygmy Corydoras displays a beautiful creamy white to pale pink body accompanied by bright ruby-red eyes that immediately distinguish it from the standard form. The absence of dark pigmentation allows the subtle metallic sheen of the scales to become far more noticeable beneath aquarium lighting. Their tiny adult size and constant schooling behaviour make them one of the most enjoyable nano fish to observe, particularly when kept in larger groups where they confidently explore every level of the aquarium.

Sexing Albino Pygmy Corydoras becomes easier once mature, with females developing a noticeably deeper body than slimmer males when viewed from above. Like most Corydoras, they are egg scatterers, depositing adhesive eggs across glass, plants and décor following the classic "T-position" spawning behaviour. Given excellent water quality, they can be bred successfully in the home aquarium.

Tank Recommendations for your Albino Corydoras Pygmaeus

Albino Pygmy Corydoras should always be maintained in groups of at least 8–10 fish, with larger schools producing much more natural behaviour. A minimum aquarium size of 50 litres is recommended. A soft sand substrate is strongly recommended to protect their delicate barbels whilst they forage throughout the day. These fish appreciate densely planted aquariums with open swimming areas, as unlike many Corydoras, they regularly occupy the middle water column as well as the bottom. Stable water quality and gentle filtration will keep them thriving.

Albino Pygmy Corydoras are exceptionally peaceful and make excellent additions to nano community aquariums.

Usually Compatible
Ember tetras, chilli rasboras, celestial pearl danios, pencilfish, small rainbowfish, kuhli loaches and other peaceful nano species.

Sometimes Compatible
German blue rams, apistogramma and peaceful gouramis may coexist successfully, provided the aquarium contains plenty of cover.

Rarely Compatible
Large cichlids, aggressive barbs, and predatory catfish should generally be avoided due to the pygmy cory's extremely small size.

Feeding your Albino Corydoras Pygmaeus

Albino Pygmy Corydoras are very easy to feed and readily accept a wide variety of sinking foods. The ideal diet would consist of quality micro-sinking pellets supplemented with frozen bloodworms, baby brine shrimp, and daphnia. Although they constantly forage throughout the aquarium, they should not be relied upon as a clean-up fish and benefit greatly from regular target feeding.
