100x Glass Shrimp
Glass shrimp are one of the most versatile and useful invertebrates in the aquarium hobby. Known for their almost transparent bodies, these shrimp are incredibly interesting to observe, as their internal organs and digestive tract can sometimes be seen through their clear exoskeleton. They are widely used both as aquarium cleaners and as a live food source for larger fish.
The bodies of glass shrimp are almost entirely transparent, allowing them to blend perfectly into their surroundings. Depending on diet and lighting conditions, they may show faint yellow or green tones through their bodies. Their delicate legs and antennae constantly move as they explore the aquarium, searching for small food particles and organic matter.
Glass shrimp breed readily in well-maintained aquariums. Females carry eggs underneath their abdomen until they hatch into tiny larvae. In freshwater aquariums, many of these larvae are eaten by fish, though in shrimp-only setups, some will survive and grow into adult shrimp.
Tank Recommendations for Your 100x Glass Shrimp
A group of 100 glass shrimp can be kept in aquariums of 100 litres or larger, depending on stocking density and filtration. They thrive in aquariums with plenty of plant cover, moss, and hiding places where they can graze and feel secure. Stable water conditions and good filtration will help maintain healthy shrimp populations.
Suitable Tank Buddies
Glass shrimp can be kept with a wide range of peaceful aquarium fish.
Usually Compatible
Small, peaceful fish such as tetras, rasboras, danios, and small gouramis.
Sometimes Compatible
Larger community fish, which may occasionally prey on smaller shrimp.
Feeding Your 100x Glass Shrimp
Glass shrimp are natural scavengers and will eat a wide variety of foods within the aquarium. They readily consume leftover fish food, algae, and organic matter, but can also be supplemented with sinking shrimp pellets or algae wafers to ensure they receive proper nutrition.
