Tomini Tang - Small
Adult Tomini Tangs have a rich brown body with a white tail and orange tipped pelvic and dorsal fins. Which perfectly illustrates the origin to another of it's names, the Flame Fin Tang.
The Tomini Tangs’ colouration changes as it gets older. Juveniles have white, blue, and yellow highlights which cover their body. These disappear with age and leave adults with a tan/brown body. The dorsal fin and pelvic fins are tipped with yellow colouration and the tail fin is white.
Tomini Tangs are group breeders, who scatter their eggs in open water.
They can grow to a length of 18 cm (6 inches), and their life expectancy is over 5 years.
Tank Recommendations for Tomini Tang
Recommended tanks size is at least 265 litres (70 gallons)
Tomini Tang are reef compatible and can be housed with corals and small invertebrates. They also need plenty of open space to swim around.
They are grazers who enjoy having plenty of live rock in the tank which they can nibble on.
Suitable Tank Buddies
. Tomini Tangs are generally peaceful; but they can be aggressive with their own species and fish introduced to the aquarium after them.
Usually Compatible
Suitable tank buddies include Angelfish, Anglerfish/Frogs, Basslets, Anthias, Blennies, Butterflyfish, Cardinalfish, Chromis, Clownfish, Dragonets, Gobies, Parrotfish and Squirrelfish.
Sometime Compatible
Sharing with other Tangs in a small tank can cause issues. Use caution when housing Tangs with Batfish, Foxface Rabbitfish. Sharks, Rays and Triggerfish.
Rarely Compatible
Avoid housing Tomini Tangs with Seahorses or Pipefish as those slow swimmers don't like to be with faster moving fish.
Feeding Your Tomini Tang
fishTomini Tangs are omnivores and will eat meaty foods, but they also need a large amount of plant-based food and algae for best health. A herbivorous diet will help to reduce aggression and maintain a healthy immune system.
They will snack on algae growing on live rock between feeds. Using a vegetable clip with Nori (dried seaweed) attached also provides them with other grazing opportunities. Tomini Tangs can also eat food flakes and pellets
