Dwarf Loach also known as the chain loach is an under-rated but incredibly versatile species to add to a planted or community aquarium. These are small freshwater fish native to Thailand and are a great species to be kept as an alternative to the more common bottom-dwelling species and are great snail eaters as well which is why they are a fantastic planted tank species.

  1. Dwarf Chain Loach

I bought 3 to see how they'd go, I love them, they have just settled in after a week and are swimming all over the place. They are very inquisitive and are getting along well with my bristolnose catfish. I will be buying 2 more as they need to be kept in at least groups of 5.

These are a great. Bought 5 about 6months ago, all still going strong and very active. Do they eat snails? Not that I've seen, guess the jury is still out. Regardless, a great add to the aquarium. Thank's LiveFish.

  3. Great addition! Snails don't like them though :)

After much indecision I finally decided to buy 4 of these loaches as they were so expensive. Very happy with my decision and have ordered another 2 for this 200L tank and a further 4 for a smaller 90 L guppy tank I have. Both have snail issues... Since arriving the loaches certainly aren't too gregarious and keep well out of everyone elses way and haven't been pests at all. I have read all sorts of reviews about loaches and was worried. Not actually seen them eat any snails, but they are constantly searching through the substrate and I haven't had any snails on my glass since their arrival which is saying something! Obviously not the only solution to snails, but if you have a tank with an abundance of the little buggers and these guys like to eat them why not! They are a lovely looking little fish and hang out together constantly. I really like them :)

i got a few of these hardy little fish and so active and leave other fish alone a nice addition to any tank with small size fish otherwise they could end up as a expensive snack to larger fish
