Pink Margin Fairy Wrasse

The Pink Margin Fairy Wrasse can develop a distinctive selection of colours. Males have a greyish pink body that is covered with tiny dots. The stomach and anal fin are a paler, white colour, and the head is yellowy green. There is a distinctive red line along the dorsal fin and on the edge of the caudal fin. This species is capable of changing colour.

This happens according to mood or when they are displaying. During courtship, their colours will become more intense. Juveniles and females tend to have duller colouration compared to their male counterparts. Females do have the same red stripe on their dorsal fin, but usually not on their caudal fin.

There are no reports of breeding and raising this species in captivity. In general, Fairy Wrasses are protogynous hermaphrodites. So if there is no male in a group, the dominant female will change sex and assume that role. So far there have been no sightings of juvenile males in the wild.

These are Indo-Pacific fish. Usually found in places like Indonesia, the Philippines, Southern Japan, Fiji, and Tonga. Juveniles swim around shallow reefs and caves between 2-20 metres. Adults are usually deeper, between 20-50 metres. They will venture into open water that is near to the reef.

Tank Recommendations for your Pink Margin Fairy Wrasse

A suitable tank should be at least 90 gallons (340.6 litres) capacity.

The Pink Margin Fairy Wrasse is a fantastic reef fish, but it can also be housed in a fish only tank. It won't harm coral but may be a threat to small shrimps. They are active explorers and will appreciate plenty of rocks, caves, and crevices in a tank.

A sand substrate is preferable, but they won't bury it at night. They spin a cocoon in the rockwork, for sleeping. This species may jump out of the tank if frightened, so a secure cover is recommended.

Suitable Tank Buddies

The Pink Margin Fairy Wrasse is a peaceful species. Tank buddies with a similar temperament make the best companions.

They can cohabit with larger species of fish as long as they aren't overly aggressive.

Usually Compatible

The Pink Margin Fairy Wrasse can cohabit with a wide range of fish. Suitable examples include Gobies, Dragonets, Damselfish, Cardinalfish, and other Fairy Wrasses.

Sometime Compatible

If your tank is a suitable size of at least 150 gallons, then some larger fish are also suitable. Examples include Triggerfish, Tangs, and Angelfish.

Rarely Compatible

Large aggressive predators such as Lionfish, Groupers, and Frogfish are a threat. Slow-moving fish such as Seahorses or Pipefish are not suitable to cohabit with Fairy Wrasses.

Feeding your Pink Margin Fairy Wrasse

The Pink Margin Fairy Wrasse is carnivorous. It will eat meaty food such as Mysis and brine shrimp, as well as food flakes or pellets. Feed twice a day.
