With the unique shape and majestic, and calm yet busy swimming style of the angel fish are just some of the reasons why this fish is one of the most popular of all aquarium fish. Also being available in such an aray of colours can make for a great looking Aquarium.
Dark coloured backgrounds will help ensure their unique colours really stand out.
Angelfish can tolerate a wide range of water conditions, but Angelfish prefer soft slightly acid water.
Angel fish are curious about their environment and can become very territorial as they mature, especially around breeding time. They will pair off and if any other fish tries to enter their territory they will go after them. Use caution when stocking to ensure they are compatable. They can be aggressive when maturing or at breeding time.
Freshwater Angelfish are not picky eaters. They will go after many types of fish food, including vitamin enriched flakes, frozen, freeze dried and live foods. While the Angels are juvenile (at the size the current stock are) ensure they are well fed with a vareity of diet to ensure they continue to grow and stay healthy.
Angelfish is typically placed in the semi-aggressive category. Some tetras and barbs are compatible with angelfish, but ones small enough to fit in the mouth of the angelfish may be eaten. Generous portions of food should be available so the angelfish do not get hungry and turn on their tank mates. In saying this they are generally peaceful until they are mating or once they go through what we could say are the 'Teenager' years.
They prefer tall/ deep tanks over short tanks because of their tall body shape, they love room to move so ensure tank is large enough to house them.
They love a well planted tank also, as this can also provide 'homes' as such so when you house multiple toether they are less likely to fight or be as territorial if they all have a place in the tank with lots of swimming room.
Pearlscale is also called the "diamond" angelfish in some regions due to the gem-like iridescence on its scales. The scales have a wrinkled, wavy look that reflects light to create a sparkling effect. Pearl develops slowly, starting at around 9 weeks of age. It can be inhibited by stressful conditions. It is recessive so requiring both parents to contribute the allele.
