Blue Flasher Wrasse - Medium
The Blue Flasher Wrasse is a fish that will bring a lot to a peaceful tank with it’s bright blue, red and yellow coloration. These fish can often give other shy tank mates the confidence to spend more time out in the open too.
Blue Flasher Wrasses brighten up aquariums with their brilliant colouration and impressive finnage. As one of the more active fish in an aquarium, its behaviour can have a positive impact on some of the quieter fish that live with them.
The Blue Flasher Wrasse is from Indonesia, the Central Pacific, Togean Islands, Sulawesi and Derawan Island. They are usually found around reefs, as this offers them many rocky crevices to go back to if they’re threatened. If there is not any danger present they prefer to occupy open water nearby.
Blue Flasher Wrasse has a maximum length of 8 cm (3 inches).
Tank Recommendations for the Blue Flasher Wrasse
Smallest tank size is usually recommended at 208 litres (55 gallons).
A jump guard or sealed lid is a must, as it may try to escape.
Suitable Tank Buddies
The Blue Flasher Wrasse doesn’t have issues with other small fish or invertebrates. It is a positive addition to a reef environment.
The only real issues with the Blue Flasher Wrasse are if it gets targeted by bigger more aggressive fish. It does not generally cause problems to other small fish. It won't mix well with similar-looking Wrasses though.
It may eat small shrimp, so as a precaution it is a good idea to ensure shrimp have grown to a medium size before adding Blue Flasher Wrasse to an aquarium.
Usually Compatible
Any fish which are passive, and aren't big enough to swallow them. Chromis, smaller Angelfish, Cardinalfish, Butterflyfish can all live together. Different looking breeds of wrasse which are smaller in size than Blue Flasher Wrasse.
Sometime Compatible
If Flasher Blue Wrasse is going to share an aquarium with fish that can cause potential issues, they must be added to the tank first. Potential trouble makers can include large wrasses of other species, Damsels, Dottybacks and aggressive Dwarf Angelfish.
Rarely Compatible
Any fish that’s capable of swallowing them. These include Groupers, Scorpionfish and Frogfish. Anemones, big elephant ear corals and hermit crabs are potential threats. As are combative species in smaller aquariums like aggressive damsels. If they’re harassed when introduced to a tank, they will hide and may never come out to feed.
Feeding Your Blue Flasher Wrasse
They feed on zooplankton and don’t seem to be particularly fussy, but need a varied diet to take care of their colouration and ensure healthiness.
Blue Flasher Wrasse enjoy a staple diet of prepared frozen food and chopped seafood. Food with added pigments and amino acids are especially beneficial. They will also eat flake foods and brine shrimp but sustaining them on this isn't recommended. You should feed Wrasse Blue Flasher 2-3 times a day to keep up weight.
