Midas Blenny - Medium
The Midas Blenny has a beautiful colour, peaceful temperament, and is reef safe. It is easy to take care of and has a lively personality, making it a great buy for any aquarist.
Midas Blenny
The Midas Blenny gets its name from the deep golden colour of its body and fins. Also, there are striking hints of blue around its chin, fins, and bright blue eyes. This species can change its colour depending on its mood, location, or mimic the fish around it.
Information about captive breeding of this species is limited. In the wild they are oviparous. Eggs are demersal and attach to the substrate, where the male will guard and aerate them,
The natural habitat of the Midas Blenny is in the Indo-Pacific. It is found along the East African coast, the Red Sea, Maldives, and the Marquesan Islands. Adults can be spotted on coral reefs with a moderate current. Usually swimming 2-3 meters above the seabed.
Tank Recommendations for your Midas Blenny
Midas Blennies should be housed in a tank that is at least 30 gallons (113.5 litres) capacity. A tank that is too small has the potential to increase aggression in this species.
This species can be housed in a reef tank or fish-only environment. A tank with plenty of rockwork will allow them to hide, and perch on live rock.
A secure lid is recommended as Blennies are capable of jumping. The Midas Blenny is used to a moderate current in the wild, so a degree of water movement will replicate this.
Suitable Tank Buddies
Midas Blennies are peaceful in nature. However, they may show aggression to similar species, especially in a confined space.
Competition for similar planktonic foods may also trigger aggression.
