Assorted Peacock 4cm
Aulonocara Sp.
Example Image Only!
African peacock cichlids have become one of the most beloved fish in the aquarium hobby with aquarists often dedicating entire large scale fish-rooms to keep all the different colours and strains available. Almost looking like a fish that came directly from a saltwater reef system the African peacock cichlids almost glow with their varying colours and attract so many budding aquarists into the hobby with their personality, elegance, and behaviour. African peacock cichlids however are not the greatest beginner fish due to their larger size whereas male peacocks can reach a maximum of 10-13 cm and have quite aggressive behaviour.

Known as Aulonocara is a genus of haplochromine cichlids endemic to Lake Malawi in East Africa.
All Aulonocara species are maternal mouthbrooders. Particularly in the aquarium hobby, Aulonocara species are also known as peacock cichlids, Aulonocaras, or simply "peacocks". This genus is strongly sexually dichromic, even by haplochromine standards.
As aquarium fish, they are best kept with other medium-sized non-aggressive cichlids from Lake Malawi.
Decorate the aquarium with a lot of open space for the Aulonocaras to swim in and a lot of caves where fish can hide, rest or establish territories. Only keep one male unless your aquarium is large enough to support several territories.
