The Endler’s livebearers are considered to be one of the best species of freshwater fish you can have in your home aquarium.
They are peaceful, undemanding, not prone to illness, easy to care for, and will breed all year round. Fantastic fish for beginners and for advanced hobbyists.
Poecilia wingei, Endler guppy species was first collected from Laguna de Patos in Venezuela by Franklyn F. Bond in 1937, and rediscovered by Dr. John Endler in 1975.
The latter were the first examples of this fish to make it to the aquarium trade.
Female Endlers are usually 3.8cm in length and may grow up to 5cm.
Females are stouter and dull-colored (pale silver or gold), unlike the males that possess vibrant colored shades and markings.
Temp - 22 – 28 °C
pH: 7 - 8
Endler guppies are extremely active, they love swimming and exploring various areas of an aquarium.
The addition of Live plants are important along with providing more exploring areas within the aquarium.
Notably, once the light goes off, they will retreat to the bottom and rest until the light return. The likelihood of seeing them at the upper levels during dark is not ruled out, and this happens more often in community tanks housing larger fish species that dwell at the bottom.
It makes a lot of sense if Endlers are kept together with tank mates that are relatively small, quiet, peaceful, and can share the same water parameters with them.
