Albino Kribensis

The Kribensis is one of the world's most popular African cichlids and quite often the first cichlids aquarists get when they enter the cichlid world. Kribensis are great because they sat relatively small, have extremely striking colours and breed very easily making them a fun, hands one fish to keep. Though albino Kribensis usually have dark colours ranging from blacks, browns, orange and reds, through selective breeding and small genetic anomalies, aquarists have been able to breed the albino Kribensis.

This naturally occurring genetic variation is an amazingly unique looking fish because of the fact that it is almost night and day compared to a regular Kribensis but also coupled with the fact that they have a beautiful assortment of colours. Albino Kribensis are almost milk-white with hints of pink through the belly and cheek plates. They also sport an iridescent blue sheen all throughout the body and especially on the fins.

Trying to find the males and females in this species is possible where adult males have larger fins with more pointed fins as well as a larger size whereas the females would have shorted fins and less bright orange colour in the fins. Albino Kribensis is not an extremely shy species and will readily present its personality to its owners and not shy from showing itself off. Tank Recommendations for your Albino Kribensis

The Albino Kribensis only needs a tank of around 20 gallons (75 liters) as they are a small growing fish. Because of their territorial nature, however, it is recommended to go for an aquarium larger however but a 75-litre aquarium will house a small colony totally fine. Kribensis are unlike most African cichlids because they are soft water cichlid meaning they prefer a lower PH of 6.5 compared to hard water cichlids. This means they can be kept in a river like an aquarium with driftwood and leaf litter perfectly fine. These are species that will actively spend time out in the open and giving them lots of territorial boundaries will result in a very successful aquarium. 

Suitable Tank Buddies

Kribensis are considered to be semi-aggressive cichlids but can still be kept with a wide array of fish. To really experience the Kribensis at their peak it is best to keep them in a species only aquarium but are still compatible with other non-African species. 

Usually Compatible

Large Tetras, butterflyfish, jewel cichlids, convict cichlid and other Kribensis.

Sometime Compatible

African peacock cichlids, peaceful aquarium fish like rams, Apistogramma, small tetras and large peaceful cichlids such as uaru or Severums but these might outcompete Kribensis for food.

Rarely Compatible

Shrimp and large aggressive species such as African cichlids, Oscars and Jaguar cichlids.

Feeding your Albino Kribensis

Albino Kribensis are very easy to feed. They will take a wide range of pellets, flakes and frozen foods. Just like any fish though they should be fed a varied diet with a mix of different foods. The ideal diet would be a good quality micro slow sinking pellet or crushed flake, supplemented with frozen bloodworms or black worms or even live foods like baby brine shrimp or micro worms.
