Just like a lot of other rainbow fish, as juveniles these Coen river rainbows tend to look washed out which turns a lot beginner aquarists away. Once these fish put on a few centimetres, they look majestic with the metallic yellow body colour overlaid with shimmering with hues of green, blue and orange. The scales are all criss-crossed with orange lines which is contrasted by the classic jet black lateral bar. Under some quality aquarium lighting and plants these fish will be breathtaking.

Breeding these rainbows in the home aquarium is possible as males tend to grow larger and show far more vibrant colours compared to females. Once these fish reach maturity, they tend to breed in an almost daily basis and aquarists often use breeding mops to collect the eggs and rear in a separate tank. Feeding new born rainbow fish can be challenging purely because the fish need to be fed on a very regular basis however it does make for a rewarding experience.
