Aceii Yellowtail

The Aceii is an absolutely stunning African cichlid with its shimmering blue and starkly contrasting yellow tail and fins. This fish has a sense of beauty with its elegant, streamline shape and interesting behavior. Aceii is a Lake Malawi cichlid which means they originated one of the 3 Great Lakes in the Rift Valley being Lake Malawi. This fish would be a great long-term addition to a display African cichlid aquarium and would be a real eye-catcher to look at in the bottom regions of the aquarium. Trying to find the males and females in this species is possible where adult Male and female Aceii look very similar, although males generally will grow around one to two inches larger than females. Also, males tend to have more egg spots and at times will flare their fins to show off for females in the aquarium. The Aceii is not an extremely shy species and will readily present its personality to other African cichlids.

Tank Recommendations for your Aceii Cichlid
The Aceii cichlid would need a tank of around 75 gallons (280 liters) as they are a cichlid best kept in a colony and in a community aquarium with other African cichlids. This means they can be kept species only or in a mixed African tank. A coral or aragonite sand substrate is advisable as these cichlids actively will sift through the sand looking for food. This sand will also increase the ph for these fish which is something they will appreciate. They will also appreciate hiding areas around rock caves and tunnels. This species is most active during the day when the lights are on.

Suitable Tank Buddies

The Aceii cichlids are relatively peaceful. They get along with a wide range of African cichlids and would make a great addition to a community of African Cichlid. They will really need other members of their species to thrive and will be far more active during the day if this is the case.

Usually Compatible

Suitable tankmates include other Aceii Malawi peacocks, calves, and haplocromis species.

Sometime Compatible

Large growing predatory African cichlids such as Malawi eye-biters, buccochromis, and species of such sort.

Rarely Compatible

Non-African fish species such as extremely small slow-moving fish such as cardinal tetras, neon tetras, glowlight tetras, and heavily aggressive fish such as Oscars, jaguar cichlids, and Red Devils.

Feeding your Aceii Cichlids

Aceii cichlids are omnivores and they will readily prefer a more plant-based diet and will actively forage on algae. They will consume a wide range of dry and frozen foods. Their diet should contain good quality sinking pellets or flake and be supplemented with foods that have high greens such as a spirulina African cichlid pellet, natural algae that is grown in the aquarium, and even sheets of seaweed. Feeding should occur one a day and it is best to do so when the lights are on during the day
